WASHINGTON D.C. - April 12th, 2024 - The College Democrats of America, following the Arizona Supreme Court ruling which reinstates a 160 Year Old Near-Complete Abortion ban, are calling on Congress to pass legislation that promotes, and ensure women's rights to choose and enshrines their reproductive rights into federal law, restoring Roe V. Wade Era protections throughout the nation. Additionally, the College Democrats of America call on the Arizona legislature to restore abortion rights back to the people.

We as College Democrats do not believe an abortion ban written in 1864, before Arizona became a member of the Union, and prior to the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th amendments, should be the governing law determining women's reproductive freedom in Arizona. These out-of-touch and draconian abortion laws are overstepping the rights of Americans, and infringing on their natural right to bodily autonomy, restoring 19th-century restrictions and setting back women's rights back almost two centuries.

The College Democrats stand with the majority of Americans who believe that abortion is and should always be a woman's choice, and we are appalled by the Arizona Supreme Court ruling, as well as the Arizona Legislatures’ vote to uphold the law with no exceptions for rape or incest.
