WASHINGTON D.C. - July 17th, 2024 - In the wake of Senator Menendez’s recent conviction, College Democrats of America and The College Democrats of New Jersey urge Senator Robert Menendez to resign from the Senate. If Senator Menendez refuses to resign, the Senate should swiftly expel him. Senator Menendez’s conviction for sixteen corruption-related charges proves that he has betrayed his oath of office, and we believe it is his moral duty to let someone who truly represents his constituents take over.

Democrats must stand for the rule of law and against corruption and we must show the American people that we do not tolerate this gross misconduct. There is no better way to repudiate Donald Trump’s corruption than to prove that we will not allow it in our ranks. No politician is above the law, whether they are a Senator, a former President, or a Supreme Court Justice.

Congressman Andy Kim’s victory in the New Jersey Democratic Senate primary this June shows that corruption and cronyism in New Jersey are out and meaningful democracy is in. And when we elect Andy Kim in November, we will send a champion of good government and accountability to Washington DC, finally turning a page on the shame Senator Menendez has brought to the Garden State.
