WASHINGTON D.C. - June 28th, 2024 - The College Democrats of America, Gen-Z for Change, and the Sunrise Movement issued the following statement regarding the NY-16 Congressional primary election:

In an election where it was the many vs. the money, we proudly supported Jamaal Bowman, a people-powered candidate and champion of the values of young Americans across the country. In the halls of Congress, Bowman has been a staunch advocate for progressive policies such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal for Public Schools. As a former educator and public school principal, Congressman Bowman has been well aware of the challenges impacting young Americans and continues to be an ardent proponent of our generation’s best interests, even if it brings him into the crosshairs of moneyed interests.

While Congressman Bowman may not have been able to overcome record breaking spending of right-wing interest groups, his leadership continues to inspire youth organizers and young voters in our organizations and beyond. The battle against big money in our elections is far from over, and we will fight to overturn Citizens United to ensure fair and democratic elections where the will of the people prevails. Let one thing be certain: young people throughout the country will do everything in their power to protect the seats of our allies in Congress. We won’t sit idly while our democracy is up for sale.
